If any of you have played competitive hockey you all know what a small world it is and what a great community it can become. You meet people along the way that you become friends with, and others that become a part of your life that you will never forget. In my journey of life I have been fortunate enough to be part of not only the life of the man we come together to honor, Dr. Dineen, but his amazing family, and especially the life of his son who is a life-long friend of mine.
At the age of 54, Dr. Dineen was taken from this world far too soon after a courageous battle with cancer that ended on New Year’s Eve 2008. No army of people will ever replace the void left on earth after his passing. The best we can do to keep him alive is to never forget all of the wonderful memories we hold, and to willingly share them for all to hear.
In honor of Dr. Dineen, his son Patrick has started the Dr. Partick Dineen Memorial Foundation. It is a not-for-profit whose mission is to make improvements to Long Island Cancer centers and their facilities, like waiting rooms, treatment rooms, and testing centers. The goal is to improve the quality of time the patients and their families are spending in such centers. The foundation is also awarding ice hockey scholarships to youth hockey players on Long Island.
The fundraiser will be held at Farrell’s of Brooklyn Bar and Grill in West Islip, New York, on Saturday July 28th from 2pm-6pm. A $10 donation at the door will get you a complimentary cocktail, and free buffet. There will be live music as well as a Chinese and Silent auction. PLEASE COME OUT AND SUPPORT THE CAUSE and HELP SURPASS LAST YEAR’S TOTAL OF $10,000.
