Semin Lands Himself a Job in Carolina

The Carolina Hurricanes ink a deal with Alexander Semin worth $7 Million

The man is finally off the market and I don’t know what I think about it.  Was he over paid, is he going to get the job done, and why the Carolina Hurricanes of all teams?  Semin the left wing free agent who was left out in limbo finally agreed to a one year $ 7 million contract with the team. Will this be a kick in the rear for the Hurricanes with much speculation surrounding the star forwards work ethic and passion to play in the NHL or is this going to be the turn around season he needs to have other teams knocking at his door after this season comes to an end.

Alexander Semin and General Manager Jim Rutherford had some comments about playing for Carolina in saying:  “I’m very happy to be a Carolina Hurricane,” Semin said. “It’s a great fit for me. I look forward to playing with great players, and putting together a winning season.”

“Alexander’s elite skill level and ability to score from the wing fill an important need on the ice, and we hope that a fresh start in Carolina will serve both Alexander and our team well,” Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford said.  “We have done a lot of research about Alexander, and discussions about his fit with our team have included people at many different levels of our organization, including players, coaches and staff,” Rutherford said. “What’s been clear throughout this process was his commitment to wanting to play in the NHL and compete against the world’s best players.”

What is this guy a science project? “We have done some research.”  The guy is a world class forward and probably one of the best, his biggest downfall in my opinion was playing on a team with Ovechkin, the attention hungry its all about me athlete.  This is probably the best move for Semin and going to be a kick in the ass for teams who didn’t scoop him up quicker.
