This weekend was the weekend of youth hockey brawls

This weekend seemed to be a weekend to let your aggression out and what better place to do it then the World Invitational Hockey Tournament.  A tournament which claims to be one of the largest AAA hockey tournaments in the world and is held in Chicago every year decided to take on Latvia for the first time, giving U10 through U16 teams the opportunity to play against international competition.

Sounds great right? Awesome experience for the kids to play international competition. But when Lokomotiv scored to a take a 4-0 lead against the Bauer Selects in the third period — a lead they would hold — the game devolved into an all-out bench-clearing brawl.

Bet no one saw this one coming.  An opportunity to showcase yourself and your team and your throwing bows at the end of the game, very classy guys, I love it.

If things couldn’t get any better we take our attention over to the U14 teams from both clubs, with the Bauer 98s taking a 3-2 win this time; but like their U16 mates, the game ended with a brawl after time expired.  Hell if the other team is doing it then why can’t we right.

Um it looks like U14′s are a lot tougher than the U16′s and someone should tell these kids to drop the mitts, this isn’t helmets and gloves like we used to play in the locker room.

To quote Billy Joel, ” We will all go down together.”
